Everyday Birth Magazine

Everyday Birth Magazine is a biannual print and digital magazine for parents, showcasing real-life hospital, birth center, and home birth stories, highlighting a diverse array of care providers, as well as educational content written by professionals. Our mission is deeply rooted in inclusivity and representation, echoing the values of our parent organization, The Educated Birth.

THE PROBLEM WE SOLVE

There is a representation problem in childbirth and parenting education + media — actually, run that back — there is a representation problem in the US in general. Actress, writer, and producer Issa Rae was recently quoted amplifying this issue — shedding light on how even in 2024, even in the highest levels of the media industry, there’s an absence of commitment to representation and diversity.

During my seven-year journey as a birth worker and educator, it’s become increasingly clear to me that there’s a real connection between gaps in our healthcare system that create outcomes like the high Black maternal mortality rate and the quality of the materials that are available to parents and professionals to inform, educate, and empower throughout the reproductive health experience.

While representation in pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care doesn’t fix all of our problems, it is a VITAL part of an equitable system of care. Our commitment to representation isn't just “nice”  — it’s “necessary!” to foster equity and empowerment. Testimonials from our community affirm the profound impact of our work:

And that’s not all! Beyond our magazine's content, we actively promote and propel representation in the pregnancy, birth, and postpartum space through various initiatives:

‍Everyday Birth Photo Contest: Twice a year, we award and showcase the work of talented photographers who have documented pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We intentionally curate a diverse panel of judges overseeing the selections, and invite a diverse selection of photographers to submit – receiving 100’s of submissions/resulting in…

‍
BIPOC-Owned/Led Donation Sites: Following each issue's release, we donate copies of our magazine to up to 50 BIPOC-owned/led birth centers and reproductive health organizations across the US. to blank blank while expanding our reach…

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?

Funds raised will directly support the printing and packaging, shipping and distribution marketing and promotion as well as other expenses associated with our Spring/Summer 2024 issue. Any surplus funds may also be allocated towards our Fall/Winter 2024 publication.
